I Love You to The Treetops by Angelina Gauthier

“I Love You to the Treetops” is the latest book by indie author Angelina Gauthier. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to read and review her previous release “What Kind of World Would It Be”, and today I have the opportunity to not only review this new release, but also share with you a Q&A I had with Angelina about her children’s books.

I Love You to the Treetops is an “Everyone” book.

I Love You To The Treetops” is a sweet and simple poetic book with beautiful illustrations created by Elizabeth Osborn that take us all around the world and back again. Mountains, forests, and beaches accompany each proclamation of love, and the characters in the images are from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Anyone can enjoy this sweet book, with its loving sentiment and beautiful illustrations.

The text is poetic without rhyming.

The thing I really loved about this book was it doesn’t try to force a rhyme. The text is straight forward and simple. A rhyme could have easily made a book like this cheesy, but the fact that there isn’t one makes it more readable and impactful.

This is a great book to give as a gift.

It’s the perfect alternative to “Guess How Much I Love You” if you’re looking for a loving gift for a small child or parent to be. I could see myself buying this for a baby shower, valentines day, a birthday gift, or just as a fun reminder to send to someone who you haven’t seen in a while. It’s a beautiful book to read to your children at bed time. I actually think I will be buying multiple copies of this book for some time to come.

I had a chance to do a Q & A with Angelina about her Writing.

Here is what she had to say:

What inspired you to write “I Love you to the Treetops”?

This story originated over 15 years ago when my husband, two daughters, and I would play a game at bedtime, saying how far we loved each other. Someone would start off and might say, “I love you to the treetops” and the next person might say, “I love you to the mountaintops”, and it would go on and on with each person trying to go somewhere farther.

Was your experience creating this book different in any way from your experience writing “What Kind of World Would It Be?”

This book was different than writing “What Kind of World Would It Be?” because it was more personal. I had the words in my head from memories, and just had to polish them up with some descriptive words. “What Kind of World Would It Be?” was written for my students and took much more time for writing and editing because it is written in rhyme. “I Love You to the Treetops” was much quicker to write and a more personal experience.

Do you have more books planned for the future?

Yes, I do have more books planned for the future. I am planning to write a series of books to help support social-emotional learning in schools, and to teach values. It is something I am passionate about and love to promote in my school.

Do you have a favorite book or author that you look up to?

I have so many favourite books and authors!! I buy children’s books all the time! I do love the art and messages of Kathryn Otoshi’s books and Robert Munsch is a fun author to read to kids.

What is your goal when you write? What do you want people to take away from your stories?

The goal when I write is different depending on the book. For “What Kind of World Would It Be?”, I wanted to instill and inspire the value of kindness in the reader, and to provide a book for parents and educators to teach social-emotional skills. When I wrote “I Love You to the Treetops”, I simply wanted to write a book that children can curl up with their family members or caregivers and celebrate the love of family, in whatever form their family looks like. I suppose my goal is to foster positive relationships.

What has been the most challenging thing you’ve experienced as an author?

As a self-published author, it is very challenging to market my books. It takes a lot of time and resources to promote books and get them noticed.

What about the most rewarding?

The most rewarding thing about being an author is reading the reviews and receiving the emails about how much people enjoy my books. I love seeing photos of kids, teachers, or caregivers reading my stories or receiving their copy in the mail.
