5 Fabulous Retellings of Rapunzel

Ready For Rescue? By Katie Pye

Penned by this month’s featured author Katie Pye, this fun and quirky reimagining of Rapunzel’s tale suggests that the heroine may not have been as ready to be rescued as we were lead to believe. With a strong message about personal hygiene and procrastination, this fractured retelling of the tale is a wonderfully funny take on the classic.

Rapunzel (Once Upon A World) By Chloe Perkins

The Once Upon a World books are absolutely beautiful and imaginative and this retelling of Rapunzel is no exception. This version takes place in India and is a simple and sweet retelling of the story with a multicultural twist.

Rapunzel By Barbara Ragosky

If you are looking to stay as close to the original story as possible, this version of Rapunzel takes the cake. Published by Holiday House and with beautiful illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman, this standard retelling of the long haired heroine is a perfect addition to any library of fairy tale classics.

Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin

I love, love, love this version! In this version, Rapunzel saves herself! It’s an awesome modern take on the story and the pictures are adorable. The update on the standard “waiting for a prince” story is a real breath of fresh air.

Rapunzel By Rachel Isdora

This reimagining of the tale is set in Africa and features not only a dreadlocked version of the heroine, but a zebra as well! It’s a fun and colorful version of the tale with an African twist and stunning collage-style illustrations.
